A columnar succulent cactus from the high, arid slopes of Bolivia, it stores water in its stems and wants gritty, fast-draining mix and strong direct sun. Water deeply but infrequently, only once the mix has dried out completely through the pot — when no moisture is felt several inches down. Sitting wet is the main danger; lean toward under-watering, and reduce further in the cooler, darker months when growth slows.

A Bolivian cactus that grows as a succulent subshrub or on rock faces, with trailing, densely white-haired stems adapted to bright, exposed sites and fast-draining ground. Give it a gritty, sharply draining mix and water deeply only when the soil has dried out completely, allowing roughly 2 to 4 weeks between waterings and stretching longer in cool or dim conditions. Water when the mix is dry all the way through, since standing moisture rots the roots and stem base.

A Bolivian cactus that grows as a succulent subshrub or on rock faces, so it stores water in its stems and is adapted to bright, dry conditions. Give it the brightest light you can, ideally several hours of direct sun, and plant it in a gritty, fast-draining mix. Water deeply only when the soil has dried out completely, roughly every 2 to 4 weeks, and err toward dry — the stored water means it tolerates drought far better than sitting wet.
