Horta keeps the records your plants live by. This page says, in plain words, what we collect, what stays private, and what we will never do with it.

What we collect

Your email address and a username, so you can sign in and so your collection has an address. Your plant records — names, species, care events, reminders, and any notes you write. Photos you choose to add.

Photos are re-encoded in your browser before they ever leave your device — embedded camera metadata, including GPS location, is stripped before upload. The photo that reaches us is pixels, not coordinates.

Using your location

Setting your climate is optional, and you can always pick your country and zone by hand. If you tap “Use my location,” your browser asks your permission first — nothing happens automatically.

When you allow it, your approximate coordinates (rounded, never precise) are sent once to a geolocation service to work out your country and hardiness zone, then discarded. We never store your coordinates, and we never log them. Only the result — your country, zone, and hemisphere — is saved to your profile, exactly as if you had picked it from the list yourself.

What's public and what's private

Everything starts private. A plant becomes public only when you turn sharing on — and you can turn it back off any time.

A public plant card shows its name, species, photo, care streaks, and how long it has been in Horta’s care — never your notes or location. Your username is part of your public collection address. If your plant came from one of our brand partners, their name may appear on its card.

What we never do

No ads. We never sell your data, and we never share it for marketing. Your plant records exist for you.

Cookies

One kind: the session cookie that keeps you signed in. No tracking cookies, no third-party advertising cookies. Our analytics are cookieless and anonymous.

Who helps us run Horta

Your data lives with the services that run Horta: Supabase (database and accounts), Vercel (hosting and anonymous analytics), Resend (the emails we send you, like confirmations), and Sentry (error reports when something breaks). Each holds only what its job requires.

Deleting your account

Email us and we’ll delete your account and its data. Self-serve deletion is on our roadmap and will replace this; until then, a short email to support@horta.app does it.
