The Striped Classic
'Vittatum' is the spider plant cultivar most people picture when they hear the name: an evergreen clump of arching leaves, each marked down its centre with a creamy-white stripe, and it holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. It is one of the two most commonly grown Chlorophytum comosum selections, the other being its mirror image, 'Variegatum'.

Stripe Down the Middle
The defining mark of 'Vittatum' is a wide, creamy-white band running along the centre of each medium-green leaf, rather than variegation at the margins. In bloom it sends up sprays of small white flowers, and plantlets often form right among those flower sprays. This stripe-in-the-middle pattern is the detail that separates it from 'Variegatum', whose white falls along the leaf edges instead.
