Washingtonia robusta is a fan palm in the Arecaceae, a family of sun-loving plants that resent standing water at the roots. Give it the brightest spot you have, ideally several hours of direct light, in a fast-draining mix. Water when the top two inches of soil have dried, then water thoroughly and let it approach dryness again before the next drink.
