Vanda tricolor is an epiphytic orchid from Java that grows clinging to trees with its roots exposed to air and rain, so it drains fast and rots if left sitting wet. Grow it in a very open, fast-draining medium or bare-root in a basket with steady airflow, and water when the roots fade from green to silvery-grey and the medium feels nearly dry. It wants warmth, bright indirect light, and consistently high humidity rather than direct sun.
