Stenocereus thurberi is a columnar cactus in the Cactaceae, a family of arid-adapted plants that store water in their stems and rot quickly if kept wet. Give it the brightest, sunniest spot you have and a gritty, fast-draining mineral mix, then water deeply only after the soil has gone completely dry to the bottom of the pot. Err toward too dry rather than too wet, and cut watering back further in the cooler, darker months.
