Guide
The species-level account. Cultivar pages build on this and say where they differ.
Senecio vulgaris is a fast-growing annual weed of temperate disturbed ground across Eurasia and North Africa, so it lives quickly, sets seed, and dies within a season. It wants bright light and a moderately moist but well-drained mix; water when the top inch of soil is dry, easing off rather than keeping it soggy. As an annual it is short-lived by nature and will not persist past flowering.

Toxic to cats & dogs
Senecio (ragwort / groundsel) — pyrrolizidine alkaloids; vomiting, lethargy. This is where toxicity lives: every cultivar of this species inherits it and none can override it.
