Guide
The species-level account. Cultivar pages build on this and say where they differ.
Rhapis excelsa is a clumping fan palm from the warm subtropical understory of southern China and Vietnam, where it grows as a shrubby thicket in dappled forest light. Give it bright indirect light and water when the top inch or two of mix has dried, keeping it evenly moist but never soggy, as its roots resent standing water. Most homes provide adequate humidity, though it appreciates steady warmth and good airflow.
