Punica granatum is the pomegranate, a woody deciduous shrub of the Lythraceae adapted to hot, dry-summer regions, so it wants strong direct light and gritty, free-draining soil. Let the top two inches of mix dry out before watering deeply; it tolerates drought far better than sodden roots. It naturally drops its leaves and slows in cooler months, when water should be reduced further.
