Livistona australis is a fan palm native to the moist forests and gullies of eastern Australia, where mature trees reach into full sun but juveniles grow in dappled understory shade. Indoors it wants a bright spot out of harsh direct sun, and even but not constant moisture: water when the top inch or two of mix has dried, and let excess drain freely to avoid soggy roots. It tolerates ordinary household humidity, though it appreciates good airflow and benefits from occasional misting in very dry rooms.
