Liriope muscari is a tough, grass-like perennial from the woodland margins and understory of East Asia, with tuberous roots that store water and resent staying wet. Give it medium to bright shade, mimicking the dappled light of its native range, and water only when the top inch or two of mix has dried. Its tuberous habit makes it far more tolerant of dryness than of soggy soil, so err toward letting it approach dry between waterings.
