Guide

The species-level account. Cultivar pages build on this and say where they differ.

A succulent subshrub from the warm, seasonally dry regions of southern Africa, storing water in its fleshy leaves and resenting wet feet. Give it gritty, fast-draining mix and bright light, ideally several hours of direct sun, which deepens the red leaf coloring. Water only when the mix has dried out completely through the pot, then water deeply.
