A small globular cactus from the dry subtropical scrub of Argentina and Paraguay, storing water in its body and adapted to gritty, fast-draining soil. Water deeply only when the mix has dried out completely all the way through, then let it dry again; it tolerates bright light but acclimate it gradually before any direct sun to avoid scorching. Standing water will rot it, so err toward neglect rather than generosity.
