Guide

The species-level account. Cultivar pages build on this and say where they differ.

Graptophyllum pictum is an Acanthaceae shrub native to humid tropical regions across West and Central Africa and the Pacific islands, where it grows in warm, frost-free understory and forest-edge conditions. Give it bright indirect light and warmth, and water when the top inch of mix has dried, letting it approach dryness between waterings rather than staying soggy. It is sensitive to cold and to standing water at the roots.
