A Rosette from Mexico
Echeveria elegans var. simulans 'Waves' is a succulent perennial in the Crassulaceae family, grown for its fleshy, colour-touched rosette. The wider genus Echeveria gathers evergreen succulent perennials and subshrubs, their rosettes of thick leaves rising toward racemes or panicles of urn-shaped flowers.

Roots in Eastern Mexico
The species this variety belongs to, Echeveria simulans, is native to eastern Mexico, reaching as far as Jalisco. It grows there as a succulent subshrub of desert and dry shrubland, conditions that shaped its water-storing habit. The name simulans was first published by Rose in 1905, and the variety recognised under Poellnitz in 1936.
