A columnar cactus in the family Cactaceae, cloaked in the long white hairs that give it its common name. As a desert native it stores water in its body and rots if kept wet, so plant it in gritty, fast-draining mix and water deeply only once the soil has dried out completely — wait until the mix is bone dry to the bottom of the pot before watering again, watering less in winter.
