Callisia fragrans is a semisucculent subshrub native to Mexico, with fleshy, water-storing leaves that let it tolerate drying out. Give it bright indirect light and water only when the top inch or two of mix has dried, then water thoroughly; it rots far more readily than it wilts. Gritty, free-draining mix and ordinary indoor humidity suit it well.
