Guide
The species-level account. Cultivar pages build on this and say where they differ.
A barrel-forming succulent from the arid highlands of central and northern Mexico, this cactus stores water in its ribbed body and rots easily if kept wet. Give it gritty, fast-draining mineral mix and the brightest light you can offer. Water deeply only when the mix is fully dry through the pot, and back off further in the cooler, darker months when it is dormant.
