Aloe vera is a succulent perennial from arid Oman, storing water in thick leaves and resenting wet roots. Give it gritty, fast-draining mix and a bright spot with several hours of direct sun. Water deeply only when the soil has dried out completely to the bottom of the pot, then let it dry again before the next drink.
