Guide
The species-level account. Cultivar pages build on this and say where they differ.
Alluaudia procera belongs to the Didiereaceae, a family of spiny, drought-adapted stem succulents native to the arid southwest of Madagascar. Treat it as a desert plant: give it the brightest, most direct light you can offer, gritty fast-draining mix, and let the soil dry out completely before watering deeply. Water only when the mix is bone dry throughout, roughly every 2 to 4 weeks in active growth and far less in cool or dormant months, since it stores water and rots easily if kept damp.
