A Rosette-Forming Succulent
Agave vivipara is a succulent perennial in the Asparagaceae family, one of the many agaves that grow as rosettes of stiff, fleshy leaves. It belongs to a genus known for spiny-edged foliage and tall, dramatic flower spikes.

A Caribbean Native
This species traces its native range to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, where it grows chiefly in desert and dry shrubland settings. It has since been introduced well beyond that home ground, turning up in places as varied as the Canary Islands, India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

As with the wider Agave genus, this plant forms a rosette of usually rigid, fleshy leaves edged with spines. When it flowers, the funnel-shaped blooms are carried in racemes or panicles on a stem often much taller than the rosette itself.
